Greek sailors continue strike

Greek sailors demanded to cancel the new bill which, in their opinion, will lead to higher unemployment in the maritime industry and maritime strike on foundations of medical and pension insurance.

On Thursday, Greece began a 48-hour strike of marine areas, aimed against the bill, which changes the Labor Code of seafarers and port workers, as well as against the overall economic situation in the maritime industry in Greece.

Today, after a meeting with the Minister of Maritime Affairs of Greece and the first secretary of the ministry, not brought a satisfactory solution, the management has decided to extend the maritime unions strike for another 48 hours, ie and 6 am Monday.

In recent years, more and more commercial and passenger vessels "escape" from the Greek flag in the other port. For example, the Ferry across the Adriatic now serve only six ships under the blue and white flag, whereas 10 years ago there were 27. Passenger traffic is also reduced by an average of 7.5% per year from 2010 to 2011 and from 2011 to 2012.
